Come join the NCA membership at our general meeting on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 7-9pm. We are excited to present Cheryl Gleason who will demonstrate the use of cold wax with oil paints.

Cold wax painting is a technique where artists combine cold wax with oil paint to create richly textured artworks with depth and dimension.

The addition of cold wax dramatically alters the oil painting process. It thickens the paint, creates a matte, velvety finish, and preserves brushstrokes. Additionally, cold wax accelerates drying time, allowing for a more spontaneous and expressive approach.

Artists can experiment with texture by using brushes, palette knives, or other tools to build thick layers of paint and achieve unique effects. Cold wax is an enjoyable and versatile medium that encourages experimentation and produces distinctive results. Cold wax and oil also works well with other materials to allow mixed media works.
