Eric McGhie is a self-taught artist. He has been creating art since he could hold a brush. His grandmother was a prolific portrait artist and a profound influence on his work and him. His exposure to her portraits fostered an early and deep interest in working with figurative subject matter.
Each of his works begin with the skeleton of an idea until the paint completes the metamorphosis. His work is a vehicle for his thoughts, and interaction with the world around him.
Eric primarily works with acrylic paint on wood panels. He uses symbolism, and figures to convey the narrative of his work. He would like for his work to bring out an emotional response of the viewer and inspires conversation with others regarding the underlying concept of the work.
